Gr.7-10 Academic Support

Thin Strip

St. Louis Adult and Continuing Education Centres highlights the “continuing education” side of our programs. We offer programs for all ages and a variety of reading, writing and math programs for youth (Grades 7-10).  Ask for extra help offered outside of regular school hours. Programs are offered either before or after school, on Saturday morning, or during the summer.

These programs will help your child with increased confidence, attention and skills-based instruction.  Most importantly, help your child face current challenges in school and prepare them for next grade levels.

Saturday Skills Builder

Register Grades 7 and 8 students attending any publicly-funded school in Waterloo Region. (Program registration required).

Homework Clubs – Gr. 7 and Gr. 8

Homework Clubs are literacy and numeracy support resource time and space for your child with an Intermediate teacher in your school.

Ask your child’s classroom teacher or school Principal about help for Grades 7 and 8 students attending a participating Waterloo Catholic Elementary School. Some after school clubs also qualify as literacy and numeracy support to the daytime instruction.

Homework Clubs – Gr. 9 – 10

Ask the Student Success Department about help for Grades 9 and 10 students attending any Waterloo Catholic Secondary School.

Homework Clubs are often available at a designated time and space (before and after school or during lunch breaks), so that students may access teacher or resource support for test preparation, assignments or further explanation of a recently learned concept. Dates and time of year will vary from school to school.

Summer EXPEDITION

Are you looking for 3 weeks of fun learning in July that will support your child’s academic success at their current and next grade level? STEM, robotics, geometry and other numeracy activities, literacy through written stories and video production, as well as transitional preparation for Intermediate or secondary school learning. Register students currently enrolled in Grades 6, 7 or 8 or entering Grades 7, 8 and 9.

To be able to register, students must be currently attending a publicly-funded school in Waterloo Region.

Get a HeadStart to Grade 9

HeadStart is open to Grade 8 students going into Grade 9 and attending one of our five Catholic Secondary Schools in September. HeadStart is an optional, summer academic preparation program. It is just one of the many ways our school board supports and invites students to “Experience the Difference” of a Catholic school. Register early for HeadStart! It has become wildly popular in recent years and we will have a limited enrollment capacity.

Note: Your child’s registration into high school does not automatically enrol your child into HeadStart.

If your child currently attends a private school or is home-schooled, please contact stlouis@wcdsb.ca to find our how they can enrol.
