The International Languages Secondary Credit Program will help youth and adults:
- Earn up to three elective secondary credits towards graduation and Ontario Secondary Diploma
- Be better prepared for post-secondary studies in the fields of business, trade and communications
- Successfully complete the Level D – University course and use it as one of the top six marks for post-secondary entry
- Develop skills for international/ global employment opportunities
- Foster global awareness and understanding
International Languages – Secondary School Credit program is open to:
- students under 18 currently attending day classes at ANY Secondary School
- students over 18 currently earning secondary school credits in any other program at St. Louis
- any adult who is an Ontario resident
- all students must be be able to attend classes in-person.
What you will learn:
All language credit courses, follow Ministry of Education guidelines and are accepted as credits towards an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). Current graduation requirements recognize at least one credit in a third language and learning one of these languages may also be used toward a WCDSB International Certificate. St. Louis offers up to 3 credits in each language and it take 110 hours of instruction to earn a credit. At the beginning of Secondary School Credit class, teachers describe course outlines, learning outcomes, class expectations, weekly attendance, assignments and culminating activities.
If you already have your OSSD and you are interested in pursuing formal education of learning a language for work, leisure or post-secondary purposes, the credit earned will be applied to your high school transcript, upon request.
ID Requirements if you are *new* to Waterloo Catholic District School Board or St. Louis:
- Proof of Status in Canada (any of the following):
- Permanent Resident Card
- Refugee Papers and Photo ID
- Status Card and Photo ID
- Canadian Birth Certificate and Photo ID
- Canadian Citizenship Card or Certificate and Photo ID
- Canadian Passport
- Photo ID (to accompany any documents listed above without a photo, we cannot accept a Health Card)
- High School Transcript, Graduation Credit Summary, or Canadian Language Benchmarks
- Proof of Current Mailing Address — We cannot accept a Driver’s License or Cellphone Bill, but can accept any of the following:
- Utility Bill (Water, Gas, or Electricity)
- Property Tax Bill
- Home Phone/Internet/ Cable Bill
- Purchase/ Rental/ Lease Agreement
- Bank Document
- Report Card
Language Requirements
Previous knowledge of a language is not a requirement to take a grade 9 secondary school language credit. Successful completion of Level 1 is a prerequisite before enrolling in a Level 2 language course (Level 2 –> 3)

Your registration is not complete until you have provided us with a transcript from your last high school, and verified your ID. NOTE: Registration for 2024-2025 school year classes is CLOSED.
There is no registration fee for in-person Secondary Language Credit courses at St. Louis for all high school students and adults who are residents of Ontario. Fees apply only to international students.
