Secondary Language Credits

In order to accommodate changing Covid-19 restrictions, IL courses will be offered online at this time. The delivery model could change to blended learning, where students would have the option to attend in school sessions as they complete the work online.

Registration for IL Secondary is NOW OPEN for the 2021-2022 school year

**High School students should register through their home high school guidance counselors.


Once it is safe to return to in-school classes, International Language Credit Courses will be offered at three different locations and times during the week.

Secondary School Language Credits are valuable for youth and adults and up to 6 different languages are offered.  The following Secondary School Credit language classes are currently offered remotely using D2L from September to June:

  • Monday evenings, 5:30pm -9:00pm
  • Wednesday evenings, 5:30pm – 9:00pm
  • Saturday mornings, 9:30am-1:00pm

During Covid-19 restrictions classes are running remotely through D2L.  Once restrictions are lifted, Japanese will be offered at St. Louis – Main Campus, 80 Young St. Kitchener on Wednesday evenings from 5:30pm – 9:00pm.

  • LYABD – Arabic Level 1 Grade 9/10
  • LYACU – Arabic Level 2 Grade 11
  • LYADU – Arabic Level 3 Grade 12

First Class: September 29, 2021 (5:30pm – 9:00pm)

Last Class: May 25, 2022 (5:30pm – 9:00pm)

There are NO CLASSES on: Dec. 22, 29, 2021; Jan. 5, March 16, 2022

During Covid-19 restrictions classes are running remotely through D2L.  Once restrictions are lifted, Chinese will be offered at Resurrection CSS, 455 University Ave.W., Kitchener on Saturday mornings from 9:30am – 1:00pm

  • LKB BDL – Chinese Simplified Level 1 Grade 9/10
  • LKB CUL – Chinese Simplified Level 2 Grade 11
  • LKB DUL – Chinese Simplified Level 3 Grade 12

The International Languages Secondary Credit Program will help students:

  • Earn up to three elective secondary credits towards graduation and Ontario Secondary Diploma
  • Be better prepared for post-secondary studies in the fields of business, trade and communications
  • Successfully complete the Level D – University course and use it as one of the top six marks for post-secondary entry
  • Develop skills for international/ global employment opportunities
  • Foster global awareness and understanding

Earn one of the three components in the Waterloo Catholic District School Board’s International Certificate Program

International Languages – Secondary School Credit program is open to:

  • students under 18 currently attending day classes at ANY Secondary School
  • students over 18 currently earning secondary school credits in any other program at St. Louis
  • any adult who is an Ontario resident

If you are interested in this program, and unsure if it is right for you, please do not hesitate to contact us.

If you have a child in Elementary school, consider exploring the International Languages – Elementary program available to them to learn a language for FREE.

All language credit courses, follow Ministry of Education guidelines and are accepted as credits towards an Ontario  Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).  Current graduation requirements recognize at least one credit in a third language and learning one of these languages may also be used toward a WCDSB International Certificate.  St. Louis offers up to 3 credits in each language and it take 110 hours of instruction to earn a credit.  At the beginning of secondary school credit class, teachers describe course outlines, learning outcomes, class expectations, attendance, assignments and culminating activities.

If you already have your OSSD and you are interested in pursuing formal education of learning a language for work, leisure or post-secondary purposes, the credit earned will be applied to your high school transcript, upon request.

  2. New Student Registration Form – for any student new to WCDSB credit programs
