St. Louis offers several ways you can earn Secondary School Credits in Summer 2019!

Note: St. Louis offers NEW Credit courses ONLY. We do not offer half-day credit upgrading options.

If you wish to enrol in more than one credit option in summer, you MUST see your guidance counsellor first. DO NOT register for Summer E-Learning courses AND Summer Day classes.  You may NOT be in enrolled in both at the same time.  You MAY register for an E-Learning course AND a Correspondence Summer Express course simultaneously.

Secondary School Credit, Teacher Directed Day Classes are offered at St. Louis Kitchener Main Campus (80 Young St.) for the Summer 2019!

Summer Day Classes begin July 2 and end July 26 — Monday to Friday, 8:30am -3:00pm

Start Date: Tuesday, July 2 (Mon., July 1 is Canada Day Holiday)

Full Disclosure: Friday, July 12

Final Exam: Friday, July 26

Lunch: 11:30 -12:00pm      Breaks: 10:00-10:15am / 1:45-2:00pm

Important Notes:

  • There is NO registration cost to attend day class. All students will be held responsible for lost textbooks or any damage to course material.
  • Visa/International students must contact Jody Fritz at the Waterloo Catholic District School Board office and pay for summer school prior to admittance. Registration forms may be completed online, however Visa/International students will not be admitted to class without receipt from Board office. Students can bring this receipt to the main office prior to the start of class on July 2
  • Students must attend the first day of class or they will be removed from the course.
  • Attend all scheduled classes regularly and punctually.  After 3 absences, a student will be asked to withdraw from the course.  If a student withdraws AFTER the full disclosure date, the course grade to that point will appear with a “W” (Withdraw) on your credit counselling summary.
  • Final Report cards can be picked up on August 21 from 8:00am-12:00pm at St. Louis with photo ID

**Parking onsite is limited and on a first come, first serve basis.**

Summer e-Learning begins full and half credit courses July 2-26, 2019: Proposed courses are Civics & Careers, Religion and Health for Life!

Canada Day Holiday: Monday, July 1 

Start Date: Tuesday, July 2 (half & full credit/ Friday July 12 (second half credit)

Full Disclosure Date: Friday July 12 (full credit only)

Final Exam ONLINE: Friday, July 12 (pm) / Friday, July 26 (am)

  • ALL course content, assignments and exam will be online.
  • Students can expect that their online course will require a minimum of 6 hours of schooling each day. Log-in is expected on the first day of class or they will be removed from the course.
  • Students should log in each day to see news from the teacher, to stay on top of readings and to complete assignments. Students must be online for final exams on scheduled dates.
  • Vacation should be scheduled outside of summer school.  Assessment deadlines and exams will not be rescheduled for vacation. A medical note, at a cost to the student will be required for missed exams.
  • No registration cost to E-Learning students. Students are responsible for any and all printing costs.

Cannot come to Summer Day Class? Complete 20 lessons in 40 days or less!

Correspondence (self-directed learning) ~ Summer Express in July and August begins first week of July.

The Correspondence ~ Summer Express timeframe to complete credits is July and August-  a lesson every 1-2 days. Summer Express is only available ONLINE and to students in regular non-adult day school.  If you are not eligible to register for a Correspondence Summer Express credit, you can still register at St. Louis for a regular Correspondence credit which gives you six months to completion.

Tutoring and Office Hours:  

Tutor support is offered by Ontario Certified Teachers employed by St. Louis.  Attendance is not required, however accessing tutors at St. Louis Kitchener Main Campus is encouraged.  There is no online tutor support.

School Closures: Correspondence office is also closed Aug 26-September 8.  St. Louis is open for other program registration.

Academic Responsibilities for Correspondence ~ Summer Express Students:

  • Correspondence students are responsible to meet the deadlines for lesson submission and exam completion as per the dates and timetable listed above — NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • Students must prepare their own study notes for their exam(s), as they progress through the course.
  • Students MUST pass all exams to be granted the credit

Students must be present for the written mid-term exam, if applicable, and written final exam IN-PERSON with photo ID on or before the scheduled date.

Credits@Work is a program that supports employees balancing school and work and usually accessed by adult St. Louis students. It is an opportunity to earn co-op credits toward their Ontario secondary school diploma while on the job. This is a great opportunity for employees with a strong desire to complete their education to obtain credits toward their diploma, while being paid. It is also a great opportunity for employers to ensure they have a skilled workforce.  If you are interested in more information about how to access Credit@Work over the summer, please contact the St. Louis Guidance Dept.  Note Summer Guidance Hours are limited to Wednesday mornings. (July 10, 17, 24, 31, Aug 7, 14)

Below is a full list of details that students must consider when registering for a Summer Secondary School Credit courses at St. Louis:

Academic Responsibilities:
·         Course changes will not be allowed once summer course begin.

·         Students must be present for the final exam on scheduled dates

·         Each student is responsible to keep informed of their progress. Please consult your teacher often.

·         Students are responsible to complete any missed work.

·         If a student withdraws AFTER the full disclosure date, the course grade to that point will appear with a “W” (Withdraw) on your transcript.

·         If students would like marks sent to post-secondary institutions, you must complete a consent form on the first day of the course and submit this form to the Guidance Office at St. Louis.

·         College applicants must login to their online application and add that they are currently attending St. Louis so that we can send your marks.

 

Attendance:
·         Students must attend /login the first day of the course or they will be removed from the course.

·         Attend all scheduled classes regularly and punctually, this includes the 6 hours of login required daily for e-learning courses. After 3 absences, a student will be asked to withdraw from the course. (Note: 2 significant late arrivals equal one absent).

·         Students who know they will be absent from a test or assignments must notify the teacher beforehand.  If the absence is unexpected, notify the teacher immediately.

·         Vacation should NOT be scheduled during summer school.  Assessments and exams will not be rescheduled for vacation. A medical note, at a cost to the student will be required for missed exams.

·         Day class exams will take place in class at St. Louis on Friday, July 26. E-learning exams are held on Friday July 12 and Friday July 26. Correspondence ~ Summer Express mid-term exam is to be completed on or before July 25 with photo ID / final exam on or before Aug 15 with photo ID.

 

Communication with Teachers:
·         Communication with day-class teachers will take place primarily in-class.  Therefore attendance is paramount. Communication with e-Learning, online and correspondence teachers will be available electronically and the responsibility of the student to ensure that communication is correct and regular.
Student Code of Behaviour:
·         When inside our school, attire must be suitable for an educational environment. Summer School Administration have the right to determine what is appropriate school attire – no halter tops or tank tops. (St. Louis is air conditioned.)

·         A complete Student Code of Behaviour Expectations sheet will be distributed on the first day of the course.

Marks for Post-Secondary Schools:
·         If you would like marks sent to post-secondary institutions you must complete a consent form on the first day of the course and submit this form to the Guidance Office at St. Louis.

·         College applicants must login to their online application and add that they are currently attending St. Louis so that we can send your marks.

Final Report Cards
·         Report cards for day class and e-Learning courses may be picked up on Tuesday, August 20, from 8am-12pm at St. Louis with photo ID.  If not picked up, they will be sent inter-office mail to your current secondary school after Aug 31. Report Card pick-up for Correspondence Summer Express is Thursday Aug 22, 8am-4pm in the Main Office at St. Louis with photo ID
