Announcement:

THANK YOU for Participating in Summer Expedition 2024!

See you NEXT YEAR!

Summer Expedition

  • Is your child currently in Grade 6, 7 or 8. Going into Grade 7, 8 or 9 NEXT September ?
  • Does your child need to improve their reading, writing, comprehension, numeracy and technology skills?
  • Has their teacher recommended additional supports in these areas?
  • Do they need a renewed interest in school?

A fun learning environment within the structure of a high school setting might set the tone for greater success and exposure for your Intermediate grade child.  Prepare your child for the next grade during this FREE 3-week, in-person, mornings only summer program for students completing Grade 6, 7 & 8.

Developing numeracy and technology skills are critical. Written, auditory and visual literacy and visual media are used to develop literacy skills in all forms. Take the extra instructional time this summer to prepare students for the next grade — Lessons are fun, engaging, and a blend of independent and group activities that foster problem solving, creativity and critical inquiry.

Taught by WCDSB certified Intermediate teachers in small class sizes.

What They Will Learn

Learning tools include exploration with:
  • 3D digital design
  • hands-on building with cardboard or Lego to apply mathematical concepts
  • invention kits, coding, robotics and use of various technology
  • storyboarding and performance
  • written and oral storytelling and narratives with various themes
  • basic movie-making and multimedia presentations
  • … and more

Who Can Enrol?

As part of the Waterloo Catholic District School Board’s values, creating success for each and a place for all,  Summer Expedition is a literacy and numeracy support program for students currently attending Grades 6, 7 and 8 classes and entering Grades 7, 8 and 9 NEXT September.

Students who currently attend any publicly funded Elementary school, please provide your child’s OEN (Ontario Enrolment Number, a 9-digit number found on your child’s recent report cards). Principal recommendation for this program is required.

Unfortunately, the funding provided this program does not allow students who are currently attending a private school or are homeschooled.

Still not sure if this summer program is right for your child?
Ask yourself:
  1. Would my child benefit from added instructional support at their grade level (Have they shown Level 1 or 2 in some areas of their progress reports)?
  2. Are there new social, academic or organizational challenges that are impacting your child’s learning during this transitional time from Junior to Intermediate OR from Elementary to Secondary school?
  3. Has your child’s day school teacher or principal recommended this program to be beneficial to your child?  If you are not sure, please email them.
  4. Is your child: in Grade 6 entering Grade 7 in Sept 2025 (born 2013)
  5. Is your child: in Grade 7 entering Grade 8 in Sept 2025 (born 2012)
  6. Is your child: in Grade 8 entering Grade 9 in Sept 2025 (born 2011)
