See you in Summer 2021! Format to be determined.

Is your child currently in Grade 6, 7 or 8…. going into Grade 7, 8 or 9 in September 2021?

Does your child need help with reading, writing, math and technology skills?

Are they losing interest in school because they just aren’t doing as well as they used to?

Explore a free, 10-day learning journey to further develop their literacy and numeracy skills.

What is Summer Expedition?

Summer Expedition is a 10-day learning journey for students currently enrolled in or going into Gr. 7 & 8 in September.  Spend some time this summer finding alternative, fun, engaging activities, infused with lessons in literacy and numeracy, to help them prepare for the next grade level. Summer Expedition will give them confidence, create new excitement about learning, and fill some of the learning gaps.  This “expedition” will be blended virtual and in-person journey next summer and will be taught by grade level in small bubbles, with the particular purpose of being ready for the next grade and fill in any learning gaps!  Some may be strong in Math and need help in language or the other way around OR need help in BOTH!  Regardless, participation in all literacy and numeracy activities is expected and promise to be engaging.

Enhance your child’s learning in fun ways using:

Minecraft for Education

Coding & Robotics: Using tools from home and STEM kits — Grade-specific activities will enhance the learning in this area

STEM Olympics: Science, Technology, Engineering and Math can be challenging at the Intermediate grades. Help your child achieve success blending math and sport, experimentation and problem-solving skills, following blueprints etc

Writer’s Craft: Telling a story can be done in SO MANY ways!

As part of the Waterloo Catholic District School Board’s values, creating success for each and a place for all,  SUMMER EXPEDITION is a literacy and numeracy support program for students currently attending Grades 6, 7 and 8 classes in a WCDSB Catholic Elementary School and entering Grades 7, 8 and 9 in Fall of 2021.

Students who currently attend a Waterloo Catholic District School Board Catholic Elementary School, please provide your child’s OEN# (Ontario Enrolment Number, a 9-digit number found on your child’s current or past report cards).  Unfortunately, during COVID-19, we do not have the resources to support students who are currently enrolled at a public school, a private school or are homeschooled.  Those students would not be able to participate in Summer Expedition in Summer 2021. The Waterloo Region District School Board should be communicating what their summer learning options are.

Still not sure if this summer program is right for your child?

Ask yourself:

  1. Would my child benefit from added instructional support at their grade level (Have they shown Level 1 or 2 in some areas of their progress reports)?
  2. Has your child’s day school teacher or principal recommended this program to be beneficial to your child?  If you are not sure, please email them.
  3. Is your child: in Grade 6 entering Grade 7 in Sept 2021 (born 2010)
  4. Is your child: in Grade 7 entering Grade 8 in Sept 2021 (born 2009)
  5. Is your child: in Grade 8 entering Grade 9 in Sept 2021 (born 2008)

To be determined for summer 2021.

2 weeks in July: Monday to Friday, usually 9:00 am – 12:00pm
