Requirements
- Are an adult age 18 years and older
- Have status in Canada
- Naturalized Canadian Citizen
- Permanent Resident
- Protected person (including Convention Refugee)
- Refugee Claimant
- Provincial nominee approved through the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program
- Person admitted under a federal caregiver program with a path to Permanent Residency
- Have a Canadian Language Benchmark assessment at levels from literacy to Level 8.
- Can attend classes regularly during class time.
The St. Louis ESL program accepts ESL students who have had a language assessment in the last 2 years at the Language Assessment Centre or who have been attending any LINC or ESL class.
Fees
There is no fee to attend ESL Classes.
Attendance Policy
Attendance is important. You need to attend for the entire class time and participate in class. You will be withdrawn from a class if you do not attend regularly.
English as a Second Language Registration
Registration is ongoing and students can start at any time.
Step 1: Contact the YMCA Language Assessment Centre to determine if you are eligible for a free language assessment. They will book an appointment and tell you what documents to bring.

You may qualify for acceptance into a St. Louis ESL class, if you have had a language assessment in the last two years by:
- the YMCA of Three Rivers
- an in-class assessment by your ESL or LINC teacher
The YMCA can confirm which English Language class you are eligible for and which language level you are at.
Step 2: Have your English language skills assessed for FREE. They will tell you your CLB benchmark numbers.

After completing the online registration form, ESL students will be contacted by St. Louis to confirm if there is space in a classroom or if they are being placed on a waiting list.
Funding
ESL is funded by the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development.
