About the Program
The St. Louis Hairstyling Training Program offers a comprehensive education recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Education, allowing students to earn secondary school credits and gain skills and experience in the hairstyling industry. Over eight months, students complete 660 hours of in-class instruction and a 220-hour practical salon placement, covering both Level 1 (TXJ3E) and Level 2 (TXJ4E) training. While the Ministry of Education covers tuition, students pay $2,000 for materials and exam fees. Led by licensed instructors, the program allows students to earn eight secondary school credits and 220 apprenticeship hours. Graduates emerge prepared for provincial exemption exams and entry-level positions in salons.
By doing the Hairstyling Training Program, you will develop:
- Foundational Skills: Students learn and develop technical skills, including hair cutting and colouring.
- Practical Industry Exposure: The program offers a bridge to the professional world by facilitating a co-op placement.
- Academic and Professional Advancement: Students earn eight secondary school credits and receive the theoretical preparation to complete the provincial Level 1 and 2 exemption exams.
By earning the St. Louis Hairstyling Certificate, students are positioned to be “signed on” by an employer and to officially register with Skilled Trades Ontario, turning your classroom hours and placement experience into a head start on your journey toward becoming a fully licensed hairstylist.
Course Descriptions and Additional Certificates
St. Louis offers both Level 1 (TXJ3E) and Level 2 (TXJ4E) hairstyling training, and a 2-month co-op placement at an off-site salon. Students must complete all three components of the course to receive a St. Louis certificate in Hairstyling.
As part of the hairstyling training program, all students will receive WHMIS training, plus Ministry of Labour Health & Safety Certification for work placement preparation.

Co-op Placement
Placement Assignments
St. Louis provides the opportunity to immerse yourself in the beauty industry through an off-site salon placement. To ensure you are fully prepared, our teaching staff works closely with you to help solidify your foundational cutting and colouring techniques before your placement begins. Because hairstyling is a regulated, protected trade, co-op placements focus on salon operations, industry observation, and professional mentorship rather than direct hair styling services. This experience is a powerful way to build a professional network and can serve as an excellent stepping stone toward a future apprenticeship. Your placement consists of 220 hours spread over 8 weeks. Shift schedules are predetermined collaboratively between the employer, co-op teacher, and student, and will include varied evening and weekend hours.
Class Times
The daily schedule consists of morning classes from 8:45 am to 11:45 am, followed by lunch from 11:45 am to 12:30 pm, and concludes with afternoon classes from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm.
